This post isn't only about food and cafes, this is a guide to my absolute favourite places in Ericeira! I have been coming to Ericeira every summer since 2017 and eventually moved here two years ago. Because I fell in love with this place, the beaches, the laidback lifestyle aaaaaand of course a guy who lives here haha
I have named a couple of places in the Village center, but needless to say the crowded streets of the summer drive me away from the hustle and bustle of town. So I have named a few of my retreat places when summer is too hot to be in the middle of the action!
This guideline comes from the bottom of my heart, not only I love these places, but the owners, the people who work there and their hard work along those years to build what they have! So I hope you can appreciate them as much as I do!
DEAR ROSE CAFÉ
This charming coffee shop in the heart of Ericeira not only serves the most delicious coffee and snacks in town but they for sure have created the most welcoming atmosphere you could imagine! Sergio e Rosangela are the sweetest couple you'll ever meet, they certainly make you feel like home. It's like going to a family member house for an afternoon coffee and cake you know? They moved here from Brazil for their retirement and started running this place in 2020. Expect lots of smiles, a place to make friends and feel welcome, specialty coffee, delicious cakes and light lunches. This is an absolute must go while in Ericeira!
📍Rua Santo Antonio 12A, Ericeira
SOUL DOUGH PIZZA
The Italian brothers don't mess around when it comes to food. They work hard day and night in front of the most beautiful and only wood oven to make the most delicious pizzas for you. Needless to say Italians take pride on their cooking and they use only the best quality ingredients to create the real experience of an Italian pizza! But they also nailed the not so traditional with the vegan options, coz they are just as amazing! The atmosphere comes straight out of a Pinterest mood board, with its vintage bus, outdoor sitting, lights hanging on the trees, its worth the 10 minutes drive from town!
📍Estrada Municipal 20, Carvoeira
This creative space by the duo Larissa Vasconcelos and Clara Pizarro is a hidden gem in Foz do Lizandro. Lari is a talented tattoo artist, who transformed the art of tattooing into a spiritual ritual. Clara is a free soul, passionate for art and all forms of creative expression, who gathered all these talents into founding her own brand Casa Luya.
They both came together and co-created this space not only for you to go shopping or to get a tattoo but a place to mingle, meet like minded people, hang out.. a true retreat for creative souls!
Stay tuned for events and workshops!
📍Rua da Marinha 4C, Foz do Lizandro
CASA PAÇO D'ILHAS
The most authentic experience and wonderful stay you could possibly have in Ericeira. Just a step away from the famous World Surf Reserve Ribeira D'ilhas, Casa Paço Dilhas offers a friendly and homy atmosphere for your stay and from time to time, pop up brunches, dinners and the best garden parties in town! Run by the two young lads and best friends Jelle and Justin these guys sure know about good food and hosting their guest well! Check out their website and book your stay, or pop up for a yoga class or massage in the garden. Booking prior is required.
📍Rua de São Sebastião 2, Paço Dilhas
If you're in for good music and good tapas this is it. Barzinho has a cozy atmosphere where expats and locals mingle to listen to real good live music. Besides, they make fresh fruit cocktails and mouth watering tapas, burgers and desserts. Out of the hustle and bustle of Ericeira town, in a nearby cute little village less than 10 minutes away. This family run business has been here for over 30 years, let's say these guys know what they're doing and they've been doing it with a lot of passion and enthusiasm!
📍Rua São João 18, Ribamar Santo Isidoro
CERVEJARIA O PESCADOR
Another family run business, just a few steps away from Barzinho. This is THE local spot! Don't expect fancy cutlery or vegan menus, this is the real deal of a Portuguese dining experience! Carlos and his wife pour their hearts into this business. From delicious food to impeccable service! No wonder this place is packed (mostly with Portuguese locals) so making a reservation prior to coming is always a good idea! My most favourite dish here is Polvo a Pescador, grilled octopus with Vongole. But there's also crab, prawns, seafood rice, fresh fish, you name it. House wine is just as delicious as any fancy wine or order an Imperial (beer on tap). This place is like the famous saying "bom, bonito e barato" which means, "good, pretty and cheap"!
